2012 Record: 23-32
2012 Finish: To say the 2012 season finished poorly for the Trojans would be an understatement. After starting the year going 12-3 in the first 15 games, the men of Troy ended their 2012 campaign going an abysmal 3-17 in their final 20 games.
When you look at the rest of the conference and the amount of depth and talent returning for the teams at the top, the case of USC is the complete opposite.
The 2013 Trojans will feature a completely new weekend rotation after losing Stephen Tarpley, Andrew Triggs and Ben Mount, who together combined for only 11 wins last season. Matt Munson is the only returning pitcher who has at least one start and more than one win. Not a good sign at all.
As far as offense goes, the Trojans will be led by Donte Flores, who finished the 2012 season batting .310 and 19 RBIs, and James Roberts, who hit for a .289 average and 24 RBIs.
Needless to say the Trojans have a lot of work to do.
Key Series: Finishing 10th place in an 11-team conference makes every series key, but for the sake of this preview, I will have to go with USC’s opening conference series against No. 6 Oregon. It will be at home for the Trojans, and if luck is in the cards, they may sneak a few wins.
