2012 Record: 36-20
2012 Finish: The Arizona State Sun Devils finished off 2012 losing a three-game series to in-state rival Arizona, ending a season in which the team was not eligible to participate in postseason play due to NCAA violations. Needless to say the 2013 Sun Devils will be eager to hit the diamond with a chance to play for a title back in their sights.
Unlike 2012, the No. 17 Sun Devils will be able to compete in postseason play and should be very eager to do so. Arizona State welcomes back junior right-hander Trevor Williams, who picked up first-team Preseason All-Ameican honors. To say Williams was dominant last season is an understatement. The righty finished 2012 with a 12-2 record while posting 2.05 ERA.
Leading the charge offensively is catcher Max Rossiter, who compiled a .326 batting average in 2012, and third baseman Michael Benjamin, who finished the year off batting .322. James McDonald and Trever Allen also will provide the needed depth for Arizona State to compete in the brutal conference that is the Pac-12.
Key Series: While it is not technically considered a series, Arizona State will participate in the Coca-Cola Classic in Sunrise Arizona early on in the season. The tournament features two games with No. 1 Arkansas. If the Sun Devils want to be considered a contender, these two games will show us where they stand.
